    Identified 44th Massachusetts Veteran’s G.A.R. Cap
    Identified 44th Massachusetts Veteran’s G.A.R. Cap, made by Bent & Bush, Boston.
    Named to “John Handy” by use of a sewn on linen tag with his ink signature.
    The interior shows good wear, but all complete with some stitching loose toward the front.
    The wool has some mothing, most of which is on the right side.
    The original “G.A.R.” in wreath insignia sewn on front.
    Has the original GAR side buttons, types I have not seen before.
    Some newspaper wrapping adhered to the underside of the brim.
    John S. Handy, was a 17 year old plasterer, from West Roxbury, Mass. who enlisted in August of 1862 as a private in the 44th Massachusetts Infantry. a nine month regiment that served in North Carolina.
