    Description

Charles Nourse Ladder Badge, Co. K, 1st Massachusetts Heavy Artillery.
VERY EARLY enlistment, this Regiment formed July 4th, 1861.  Originally assigned to the outer defenses of the Nation's Capitol, Washington D.C.,  they went on to fight at Winchester, Harpers Ferry, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna River, Totopotomoy, Cold Harbor, Hatcher's Run, Petersburg, Jerusalem Plank Road, Deep Bottom, Mine Explosion, Peeble's Farm, Boydton Plank Road, Dabney's Mill, Sailer's Creek, Cumberland Church, and were present for Lee's surrender at Appomattox.
This is a highly desirable example sporting crossed-cannon of a Heavy Artillery unit, that was the first Heavy Artillery unit being formed and deployed from the State of Massachusetts.  Very difficult to find these badges from units with such early Regimental Numbers as the 1st Massachussets.
Ladder Badges are highly collectible and good investments for Civil War enthusiasts and collectors alike.
From a recently acquired collection of exceptionally unique, desirable ladder badges.
It is uncommon to find these ladder badges with Corps Badge symbols, this recently acquired collection of nine ladder badges has in common feature that each has its Corps Badge symbol stamped on the badge.
