Frequently Asked Questions
Why are your brake hoses more expensive than others sold on eBay?
There are brake hoses being sold on eBay that are being made and sold from Argentina that are not D.O.T. Certified. All you need to do is read the listing and you will see that NO reference is made that the brake hoses are D.O.T Certified. Brake hoses used in the USA must be D.O.T Certified to be Street Legal. But in other Countries that is not required and that is why they are allowed to sell on eBay. All you need to do is email them and ask for a YES or NO answer to a simple question "Are your Brake Hoses D.O.T. Certified and Legal for use in the USA?"
There are also US Sellers that are buying the cheap brake hoses and reselling them, so watch out for those.
Are your Brake hoses D.O.T. Certified?
Absolutely! we have been approved and given a registration number by the D.O.T.
All brake hoses manufactured with the equipment we use and the components meet or
exceed D.O.T FMVSS106 and SAE J1401 standards. Our brake hoses meet all International
Safety Standards and have all the proper labeling on the hoses to pass Vehicle Inspections in any State or Country.
Why should I care if the brake hoses are D.O.T approved
?
When a brake hose has D.O.T. certification it means that the Equipment, Parts and Process all met the requirements to make a safe brake hose. Unfortunately there are people selling counterfeit brake hoses to the public that have not been D.O.T. approved which makes them illegal to use in the USA. Are you risking your Life, Vehicle and Family with cheap brake hoses???
How are the brake hoses identified as being D.O.T Certified?
All the brake hoses we make must have our D.O.T. number crimped into the fitting when made. The brake hoses are also D.O.T. labeled and date coded per regulations.
So at any time, no matter where our brake hoses go, they can be traced back to us.
Do you offer any kind of a warranty on your brake hoses?
We have a two year warranty that covers the fittings and crimp for leakage on our
Rubber and Braided Stainless Brake Hoses from the date of purchase. The warranty does
not cover brake hoses because of improper installation that results in the brake hose rubbing or stretch failure.
If I have a problem with a brake hose what do I need to do?
All you need to do is contact us by email or phone and we will give you the information
where to send the defective brake hose. Once it arrives we first make sure it is
our hose
by the D.O.T. number in the crimp area. It will then be examined and we will contact you on what conclusion we came to and what we can do resolve the problem.
Why do you have to have the PVC Cover on the hoses
?
The D.O.T. determined that the Braided Stainless Brake Hoses used for Street use needed to have a coating to protect the inner Teflon tube. It was found that dirt particles were working through the uncovered stainless braid and getting down to the Teflon inner tube. Then as the hoses moved it acted like sand paper and wore away the inner tube causing failure. Uncovered hoses are still being sold but they are suppose to be labeled for "OFF ROAD USE ONLY" when sold.
What is a Whip Insert
?
The Whip Insert is placed on the end of the Braided Stainless Brake Hose before we place the fitting on for crimping. The Insert is made with a special aluminum that is a buffer between the stainless hose and steel fitting. This is required to prevent premature hose wear if there is any side movement (Whip) as the hose is used, being a softer material it buffers some of the motion.
If you have steel on steel the hose would wear out prematurely. There is actually a D.O.T "Whip Test" that our process and hoses had to pass before we were allowed to make Street Legal Braided Stainless Hoses.
What about liability?
We carry a Million product liability policy that we must have in order to make and sell brake hoses.
Do you test your hoses?
All hoses are pressure tested to 3000 psi, twice the maximum operating pressure of any normal vehicle.
Do you make Custom hoses
?
Yes, we can make almost any brake hose configuration you need to make your Custom or Rod look great. No need in having a brake hose that is to long or to short, or a bunch of hodgepodge adapters to make it fit.
Normally how long does a brake hose last?
The average life expectancy of a brake hose is about six years once it is put into service.
This is based on a daily driven vehicle. So the less you drive a vehicle the longer the brake hoses will last.
Do you make Stainless Steel Braided Hoses?
Yes, We can make almost any brake hose in either Rubber or Braided Stainless Steel.
But the Braided Stainless Steel do cost more to purchase.
