Description
Reduced from 9 to 9, must clear inventory for winter stock! This listing is for a very old composition and cloth doll, 13 inches tall, with molded hair, and the maker's mark "H C Q" on the back of the neck. Head and partial arms of composition, cloth body and legs.
All I can find on the HCQ mark is: "H. C. Q. - Mfg. unknown USA, some dolls distributed by Averill" from the dollreference.com website.
She's obviously not wearing her original outfit, but I'll send the modern one along anyway. Based on the likely date made, she probably had a mohair wig over the molded hair, but that's also missing. There's definite crazing, on the top of her head you can see the pink glue composition layer very clearly, and her ears are very cracked-- she might need some restoration, so between that and the fact her original wig and outfit (likely felt) is gone, I won't ask for as much as I might have otherwise.
Please see all the photos. I can't find this particular doll anywhere online, but quite a few similar ones from about 1910-1930. The closest one I found on Ruby Lane (might actually be a variation of this doll with wig and original outfit) was listed for a thousand dollars (!) but that one had the Averill mark, not the HCQ and its original outfit.
