Description

For your consideration is a very old rare, and unique "LAST RITES" & "Sick Call" box. These boxes were stored in one's home to be used by a priest who would perform sacred prayers for the sick, and Extreme Unction.
It is very old and it appears to be handmade.
The base or actual box, is made of wood and painted black. It has a repaired crack in the front, exposed nails in the interior of the box, and is missing the rear door which would have opened to reveal the contents. It is sturdy.
The front of the box is adorned with a metal framed LAST SUPPER scene, which is attached with 4 tiny screws.
Atop the box is a metal (Brass, I assume), three footed, heavily decorated sculpture which was designed as candle stick holders, and a Holy Water well, and an unknown compartment in the back, possibly a match holder for the candles.....very beautiful. It is also mounted with 3 small screws.
Included in the box is a spoon with an embossed Cross on the handle. There are no markings on the spoon indicating what metal it is made of, however it "appears" to have some silver content, but I am not certain.
Also included is a small metal plate with the inscription "IHS" amidst a beautiful vine.
Lastly is a beautifully decorated clear glass bottle used to hold Holy Water. It has no lid.
It is quite heavy for its size because of the metal adornments attached to it. Almost 4 lbs without contents.
Dimensions: 9 1/2" tall x 8" wide x 6" deep.
Overall, the box and content collection are in Very Good condition for its age.
