Vintage Retro MCM Mid-Century Modern Amber Marigold Gold Iridescent Mirror Carnival Glass 9 pc Iced Tea Picnic Party Pitcher Set.
Nine-piece vintage, MCM pitcher set! The 8 glasses are in EXCELLENT condition, no chips, cracks or repairs and have an eye-catching honeycomb design making this iridescent amber glass really shine. The pitcher is also in excellent condition with a geometric, descending swirl piping design. Beautiful and interesting amber/orange/gold/brown color. In great condition, heavy glass that feels durable and looks cottage chic. The pitcher is 10” Tall x roughly 9” Diameter from tip of spout to end of handle. Each glass is 6.5” Tall x 3” Diameter at top rim.
Carnival glass is molded or pressed glass to which an iridescent surface shimmer has been applied. The keys to its appeal were that it looked superficially like the much finer and much more expensive blown iridescent glass by Tiffany, Loetz and others and also that the cheerful bright finish caught the light even in dark corners of the home. Carnival glass has been known by many other names in the past: aurora glass, dope glass, rainbow glass, taffeta glass, and disparagingly as 'poor man's Tiffany'. Carnival glass was first made in the early 1900’s and reached the height of its mainstream popularity in the 1920’s. Recently it has made a resurgence in the vintage, MCM community and we can see why!!
